History Repeats in Rotorua

On Wednesday, 13 August, Ambassador McCormick and U.S. Defense Attaché Captain Dawn Driesbach were guests of honor at a centenary dinner commemorating the opening of the Rotorua Bath House (now Rotorua Museum of Art and History).  Exactly one century earlier, on 13 August 1908, the Bath House had been officially opened by another representative of the United States, USN Admiral Charles C. Sperry.

The centenary dinner was attended by the Mayor of Rotorua Kevin Winters; Hon. Steve Chadwick, Minister for Conservation; and leading Rotorua citizens involved in heritage conservation, philanthropy and local government.  At the event US-Rotorua history was celebrated, and the Ambassador congratulated everyone on their outstanding success in conserving their iconic heritage building for future generations.

The Ambassador also presented a plaque commemorating the centenary event to the Mayor which will be displayed in a new wing of the building. … (photos)
